New ATI Catalyst Display Driver 10.7 Released!

Well Folks, It’s time for another driver update from ATI. The new version called ATI Catalyst 10.7 seems to offer several needed improvements over the last version and fixes several problems in the windows family of operating systems especially the difficulties with windows 7.

Some of the problems people have been experiencing on Windows 7 that have been corrected are:

  • The “Desktop Window Manager has stopped working” error no longer appears
  • The ATI Stream (CAL) test no longer exits with an exception error under CrossFire
    configurations
  • The screen no longer blanks out when the flashlight is turned on in “The Chronicles of Riddick 2” with Screen Space Ambient Occlusion enabled
  • Running Unigine Heaven 2.1 (OpenGL) with “Tessellation” enabled no longer causes the system to fail
  • The video player no longer exits abruptly while changing basic quality settings in Catalyst Control Center
  • The browser no longer fails after repeated system suspend/resume and video playback pauses while viewing YouTube content

New Features

Besides fixing problems, the new drivers also add new features such as:

  • ATI Eyefinity – HydraVision enhancements (Supported on the ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series)
    • Now you can use user defined bezel compensation when using multiple displays
    • The driver allows automatic adjust for title bar visibility when you drag and drop a window
    • Dialogue boxes can now be displayed only on the user “preferred” display
  • An improved pull down algorithm for better visual quality
  • The new driver supports end users running ATI CrossFireX configurations to use rotating displays.
  • Provides acceleration for the VLC 1.1.1 media player on the ATI Radeon HD 5000 and ATI Radeon HD 4000 Series
  • Anywhere from a 2% to 10% performance increase depending on the series using when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering is enabled
