Sony Play station has never been all that popular with the PC crowd, mostly because of the lack of PC drivers. It seems that sonce Microsoft’s Kinect was jumped on by the developer community after the APIs were released for independent development, Sony want a piece of that action.

According to the GDC (Game Developers Conference) 2011schedule, SCEA’s John McCutchan the  head of the Game Systems team in Developer Support is speaking at the conference. His speech is titled, “Update on PlayStation Move Development”.

The speech will discuss “bringing developers up to speed on developing for the PlayStation Move controller and will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs.”

Rumor has it that Sony may be releasing official drivers for it Move motion controllers to help hook the motion-sensing peripheral up to a computer the way the hacker community is already using the Kinect to PCs, MACs and even to control robots. If the rumor is true, then the Kinect developer community will be getting some competition from the PC developer community.

We won’t know what is really happening until March 2 which is when John McCutchan is scheduled to talk.
